We returned! You remember last year when I had one of the best weeks in my life? I thought it was a once in a lifetime thing but now it seems to be a once a year thing! Great! Or well, it wasn't actually just as good as last year. We weren't there the whole week so we missed the runnign competition and I didn't take part in any hunting tests or any dog show either. But we ended up having a nice time anyway.
Here's the good ol' tent and me, just like last year! This year I also had a brand new crate, but I didn't really like it.
The first day I didn't get to do much. The training was for the humans. Poor me. The next two days we trained tracking. I suspect my humans again were trained a bit more than me, because it all took a lot of time, but well, I guess they need all the training they can get.
Here we're training agility. It rained cats and dogs the both training sessions, but that's not a problem for us real retrievers!
We didn't train much obedience this year, not that I wouldn't need it (even I know that!) but we just didn't have the time. Now we trained a little bit retrieving & holding and coming when called.
Here the toller team at the camp trial. It's a extremely serious trial ;-) where the dogs and humans have to solve practical problems of everyday life as fast as possible. One task was to get the dog to bring in various things (bowls, beer bottles and cans, sausage etc) from a square. Another task was to coordinate a multi-retrieve so that four people and a dog retrieved two land-marks and three dummies hidden in three swimming rings in the water. The toller in the toller team was the great Jouni who unfortunately in the lack of human strategies didn't get us to the finals.
"Stand still!" In the middle of the fun we packed our bags and left camp. We drove several hundred kilometres back home to attend a dog show, the Nordic Winner show. It was a nice day - my birthday on top of all! - very sunny and lots of dogs, more than usually. I did pretty well, I was the second best male and that was among the top tollers in Finland! Quite something! Pictures from the show. The judge's opinion on me.
It aint over until it's over. The next day we drove all the way back to camp. We didn't spend the night, just were there all day and then drove away again... This last day there was an agility trial. First my human wasn't going to enter me because she's getting tired on my trial-only-tricks. Then she just couldn't resist and so we were in. The trick of the day was to first perform very well, but before the last obstacle I decided to keep the course and head for the girl and lake and the dog in the lake...
Then we left camp. Not by boat though. Til' next year!
